how to style shelves like a pro.

Decorating your home can be really difficult. We’ve lived in this house for about a year and a half & I’ve already redecorated this area in my home about 15 times. If you know me in real life, you know I’m obsessed with Rae Dunn. If you don’t already know, Rae Dunn is a designer of pottery that you can buy at HomeGoods stores. Anyway, I digress, styling open shelving in your house is really easy and can make a huge impact on the design in your home.

I always try to vary textures, sizes and shapes on my shelves. The first step that I always do is shop my house. I love to grab pieces from around the house to use in different spots. So for these shelves pictured, I gathered all of my pieces from makers on Instagram, Hobby Lobby, TJ Maxx/ HomeGoods, World Market & Walmart. Surprisingly, Walmart has been stepping up their game for decor recently.

On each shelf you’ll see lots of Rae Dunn, again, I’m obsessed, it’s fine. I usually take the big pieces and put one on each shelf. So for example, the top two shelves in my kitchen/dining room have the tobacco basket (Hobby Lobby) and the galvanized drink container (Walmart). Then I go through and place some of my favorite items. In this case, I wanted to showcase my Rae Dunn tea set & mixing bowls. I try not to place more than one item with a quote per shelf. I then like to incorporate greenery for texture and color.

I love to use statement pieces like the “&” sign (Hobby Lobby). Other items I’m obsessed with that are trending right now are my letterboard from Hobby Lobby (but you can find them basically everywhere right now) & my super cute sign from @ShowTheJoy on instagram.
